Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022
Delighted that my work is in the RA Summer exhibition this year! This is the third consecutive year I have been selected and the sixth time I have shown my work in the Summer Exhibition. The Exhibition runs from the 21st June to the 21st August and is based in the main galleries at Burlington House.
The theme chosen by the exhibition’s co-ordinator, Alison wilding RA, is ‘Climate’. Garhytteån, the print exhibited in this year’s exhibition was inspired by the river that runs beside my family’s summerhouse in central Sweden. Here, I enjoy a ‘morgondopp’ (morning swim) in the river Garhytteån, while the coffee brews. Sheltered from the wind, the river water is often completely still and acts as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding houses, trees and sky. This print was built up from nine separate layers of print from a combination of digital photographs, hand drawn positives and chiffon fabric. I enjoy the tension and ambiguity these different sources create in the finished print. I am looking forward to returning to Sweden this July, to taking my morning dips in Garhytteån, walking in the forests, meeting up with my maternal relations and speaking my mother tongue.
